Mrs. McCaslin’s Fifth Grade Update June 4-8

Memory Verse- Test June 8 - 1 Samuel 12:20 “Do not be afraid,” Samuel replied. “You have done all this
evil; yet do not turn away from the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart.”

Dear Parents,

Your children are delightful! I’m honored and proud to be teaching and leading this remarkable group this
spring. They did a wonderful job presenting their chapel skits, verses and testimonies. It is amazing to see how
this group of kids sees the hand of God in their lives, even in the hard times.

Regarding progress toward our final grading period: please check RenWeb and ask your child to look for missing
assignments or grades below 70% to work to improve grades. I will be accepting corrections and late work until
June 8.

Our Middle Ages reports are nearly complete. We’ve been writing excellent thesis statements, "clincher"
statements, and “dressing up” our writing. Our final copy will be turned in Monday, June 4. We’re looking forward
to seeing their amazing presentations beginning on Wednesday, June 6.

We have two major celebrations coming up - we have earned our second “POINTS PARTY” and we will be
going BOWLING!!

The kids voted and chose to picnic at Custer Park for our “points party”. We’ll leave the school at 12:05, eat
lunch at the park, play kickball or whiffle ball, have a special snack and finally have a “free play” time before we
return to class and have a “READ IN” till the end of the day on Friday, June 8.

Our end-of-the-year Bowling field trip will take place on Monday, June 11th from 9:45-1:00 p.m. Students need
to wear/bring socks to use with the bowling shoes, and don’t forget to wear your red WHCS shirt! Lunch will be
provided at Pizza Caboose. While students are welcome to purchase snacks while bowling, I hope they are
considerate of others who didn't bring money for snacks. Mrs. Vergas, our room parent, will be contacting
volunteer driver/chaperones - we will need 4 to 5 drivers to transport 21 students and one teacher. I'll be sending
volunteer info to you soon. Let me know if you have additional questions! The cost will be covered by our classroom funds, so you do not have to send money with your child!

With joy,
Dixie McCaslin

McCaslin Update May 29-June 1

Mrs. McCaslin’s Fifth Grade Update May 29- June 1
Memory Verse (test May 29 ) Ruth 1:16 “ But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me
to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.”

Dear Parents,
Thank you to all the parents who contributed to our "Everybody's Birthday" party. Mrs. Vergas and Mrs. Clarke outdid themselves with an amazing "Middle Ages" themed party. Thanks to Mrs. Aboma and Mrs. Pecore for your assistance at the party. There were goblets, crowns, leeches, signet rings, marshmallow catapults, and even an edible castle! What a great party- The students enjoyed the celebration!
We’re  nearly ready with our own chapel presentation coming this Wednesday May 30th, teaching about the
Knight’s Code. We’ve been filming videos in preparation for the big day. We’re planning a time of worship and
testimonies that should be very special. Please see the Blog post titled " Chapel Program May 30" for details.
Several students have volunteered to take on special roles that may require a little preparation (for example,
writing and practicing a short introduction), while a few others have asked to share a testimony of how God is
working in their lives, please check the program. Please don't worry if you don't see your child's name, all of the kids will participate in the skits and recite a verse.
Regarding progress toward our final grading period: please check RenWeb and ask your child to look for missing assignments or grades below 70% to work to improve grades. I will be accepting corrections and late work until June 8.
Our Middle Ages reports are coming along nicely! All of the students have a completed rough draft!! We'll be making edits and revisions in the coming few days in plenty of time to have a "polished" final copy by June 4.
Several parents have requested some ideas for summer reading, writing and math. I’ll check with Mr. Reidl and share some ideas with you coming soon!
With joy,
Dixie McCaslin

McCaslin Update May 21-24

Mrs. McCaslin’s Fifth Grade Update May 21-24
Memory Verse (test May 24 ) Ruth 1:16 “ But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or
to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your
people will be my people and your God my God.”

Dear Parents,
We’re  working hard on our own chapel presentation coming May 30 teaching about the Knight’s Code. We’ll be
filming our videos this week in preparation for the big day. We’re planning a time of worship and teaching that
should be very special.
Another project we want you to know about is our work with our first grade reading buddies on books called
Zoophabet”. Your kids have been sweet helpers and role models to the younger buddies.
We have started our outlines and rough drafts in class for our Middle Ages reports. Please check with your child
this week-end to be sure he or she will have the rough draft complete and ready to turn in on Thursday, May 24.
Our spring MAP testing is nearly complete, the kids worked so hard and did their best! I’m proud of them.
With joy,
Dixie McCaslin
