McCaslin Update April 30-May 4

Mrs. McCaslin’s Fifth Grade Update April 30-May 4
Memory Verse Isaiah 41:10   (Test May 4)
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I
will uphold you with my righteous right hand”.

Dear Parents,
We have had a great time learning about kindness in Chapel from some very creative third graders! Look for a
kindness challenge coming up in the month of May. We’re also working on our own chapel presentation coming
May 30. Our students have written skits to teach about the “Knight’s Code” and are hoping to film them to show
at the chapel later in May. We’re studying Ancient Rome, reviewing in math and working on writing excellent
paragraphs - and more!
Congratulations to the cast and crew of Seussical for such an amazing production. That was amazing!
With joy,
Dixie McCaslin

Update April 23-27

Mrs. McCaslin’s Fifth Grade Update April 23-27

Memory Verse “I lift up my eyes to the mountains - where does my help come from? My help comes from the
Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Ps 121:1,2 ( test 4/27)

Dear Parents,
We had a quiz in math this week, you can see the results posted on RenWeb. I want to let you know how proud I
am of your kids, multiplication with fractions can be complicated - we persevered! If you find that your child’s
score could use improvement, he or she can return the quiz with corrections to improve the score. This is true for
most assignments up until a test in that particular unit. I keep reminding the students that my goal is for them to
learn the material and be confident! To increase confidence in math, keep practicing those math facts! It’s a great
idea to take a few minutes each day to practice. Here’s a link recommended by Mr. Riedl:

Please note: Look for a missing work report to be stapled to your child’s work for this week!
With joy,
Dixie McCaslin

Days 6&7- NYC! and HOME!!

I had never been to the “Big Apple” until Saturday. What a great way to cap off an amazing week. From One World TradeCenter toCentral Park, 5th Avenue and a look into Tiffany’s, Times Square (crazy!) to the M&Ms store- we ended our day with “Anastasia” a musical on Broadway. We at delicious gyros and biryani from street vendors & saw so many iconic sites, I just have to say what a blessing to see things I’ve only heard about.
After the craziness of Saturday- we ended our journey fittingly with a trip to the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the Museum at Ground Zero- the 9/11 Memorial. God is with the USA in good times and He walks with us through evil as well.
There are stories from each place, broken elevators, hiking down 18 flights of stairs, a life sized Pikachu, a bus stuck in a too short tunnel, wedding crashing, left behind on an island, and so much more. Those stories will have to wait. I’ve got lessons to prepare, fifth graders are waiting!
